This week in our phonics program we have been working on the a sound. We have learnt the 4 ways of making the a sound: a, ay, ai and a_e as in cake. When we learn about sounds, we also learn that there are always words that like to break the rules like said and some words might not follow the rules as they are from another language or in a name. We noted that ai is most often found in the middle of words ( except in aim) and ay is most often found at the end of words. We also learnt that a has both a long sound and a short sound but it doesn’t say uh.
