In recognition of National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, Room 3 explored important aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories. We learned about the Stolen Generations, listened to Dreamtime stories, and examined traditional artefacts and artwork, deepening our understanding of Australia’s First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to Country.
On Wednesday, our class visited the nature play area, where Mrs Ball shared the story of The Rainbow Serpent by drawing in the sand using traditional Aboriginal symbols. We began by saying our Acknowledgement of Country and took time to connect with Country by exploring the native plants around us. Each student then chose a natural item to examine using their senses, before sketching it carefully and later painting their artwork as a reflection of their connection to nature.
